Feminist Futures of Work: Reimagining Labour in the Digital Economy

Open access book on platform design + feminist principles available for download here

I was invited to the book launch of ‘Feminist Futures of Work: Reimagining Labour in the Digital Economy’, at University of Amsterdam on 8 March, 2023.

I spoke about the global South's unique contortions of platforms and social protection of political economy, while other panellists discussed the future of creativity in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the role of digital platforms in creating middlemen for economic transactions in internet markets. The launch was moderated by Usha Raman, Professor of Media Studies at University of Hyderabad; Daniel Green, University of Maryland; Laura Herman, Senior Researcher at Adobe and PhD student at Oxford Internet Institute; and Sai Amulya Komarraju, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad.

Edited by Payal Arora, Usha Raman and Rene Konig, the book brings together voices of researchers, technologists and activists that are invested in better futures for workers, a future that takes on feminist values or ‘femwork’ at its core. It is a culmination of a projectFemLab’ that was supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). I have contributed a chapter on the education technology or ‘ed-tech’ sector and its importance for women's work.

A recording of the discussion is available here.
